Additional Product Information

The KB Electronics KBTC-125 is designed to control a motor's torque, by controlling motor current. Unlike a traditional DC motor speed control, which controls voltage and limits current, the main potentiometer of the KBTC sets the current. The motor current will not vary over the speed range if the load is less than the current set point; the KBTC goes to maximum voltage.

The KBTC-125 torque control is rated for a maximum output current of 8 amps (10 amps max with an auxiliary heat sink). The KBTC-125 model operates from 115 VAC, and powers up to a 3/4 HP, 90-130 volt motor (1.5 HP with an auxiliary heat sink).

The KBTC connections are the same as a KBIC DC motor speed control. Accessories include Barrier Terminal Board, Barrier Terminal Kit and SI-5 signal isolator. The KBTC-125 uses one Plug-in Horsepower Resistor (0.015 ohm) for all motor sizes.

The only trimpot on the control is the MAX current trimpot. It sets a percentage of the maximum allowable current so it can accommodate smaller motors. The inhibit and auto inhibit circuits work just as on the KBIC, and each control includes a fixed acceleration capacitor to control the rate of rise of current in the motor when first turned on.
